We are still here for a number of reasons. Some incredibly loyal customers for whom the shop means something and support us regularly. Some visitors who make their way specially to see us as part of their day out in Brighton. And others from all over the UK who order online from us. We, literally, couldn't be more grateful.
Everyone knows how difficult (and also how good) running an independent store is and we've also been helped by a quite wonderful group of people who have worked with us since we opened. A big shout out to the current crew of Elise, Elsa and Jamie who work in the shop on different days of the week and help make coming into the shop a nice thing to do; and, While we are doing shout-outs, a big one to Jean, too. I get all the fun of ordering the magazines, being in the shop and generally putting myself about. Jean gets the 'fun' of sitting at home dealing with around 200 invoices and making sure all of our great magazine producers and distributors get paid on time. Which, of course, she does for nothing, which is another reason why we are still here.
Trying to keep alive has meant that we have said no to student discounts and no to local trader discounts because we couldn't afford to give them. Thanks to everyone for your understanding. We really appreciate it. But...we've have wanted to give something back to all our regulars especially, and in a week or so we'll be launching our own loyalty card, inc conjunction with our favourite coffee shop, coffee@33, just up the road from us. Keep a look out in the shop and on all of our social media.
Right now, I'm looking forward to a day tomorrow of meeting old and new customers, playing some good music, ordering some new magazines and congratulating some, no doubt weary, runners. Thanks, everyone.
