Anyway, we are over a year old now. It continues to be great, unpredictable (I'm writing this on a Saturday because this beautifully sunny day has been our slowest Saturday morning ever), challenging, inspiring, fun and more. We've worked with some great colleagues (a special shout-out to Nick, Jamie and Yvette) and work with some great ones now; thank you Roxi, Bee, Beth and Jean. We're met some great people who produce or read magazines and have the least problematic, nicest bunch of customers you could possibly want. We have a monthly newsletter that goes out to people and friends who have asked to be on our mailing list. We've played some great music including, every Saturday at 1330, our obligatory hearing of D'Angelo's Black Messiah. We've organised evening events that have packed out the shop (not that difficult, we know, but they have) and nearly 4000 people follow us on Instagram. If you don't follow us yet, magazinebrighton is the place where we throw up a photograph of every magazine moments after it has arrived in the shop.
We are also getting close to break-even, too. This is good because it means we might be getting close to making a surplus. And that is good because it means we'll soon be able to help seed some magazine start-ups here in Brighton. That's where the surplus is going.
And...we have just gone online. We've had lots of request for this from people who live as close as Portsmouth but who can't get to Brighton frequently to people from the USA and elsewhere who have heard about us somehow. Our online shop is open through the website (www.magazinebrighton.com). We only opened officially yesterday (not sure April Fools Day was quite the right day to start something new) and for the first two months until we make sure all is running smoothly we'll be sending out to the UK only. After that, the world! Amazingly, though, we have had orders already. Very exciting.
We've got more plans, too. Let's save those for the next blog. We may not produce it next week but it will be a lot quicker than 11 months. a lot quicker. Thanks, as ever, for all your support, ideas and interest. It's been so helpful.
